Recognizing the brilliant initiatives and contributions of women in the fisheries industry, BFAR8 conducted the “Pasidungog: Kababayehan ha Sektor han Pangisdaan” where the Bureau chose this moment to honor these women who have been our hardworking allies in the conservation, protection, and management of our marine resources and likewise in creating a significant impact in the lives of the fisherfolk community.

Awardees were women coming from the various sectors of the region such as politics, academe, and the fisheries industry. Creating and striving to produce a positive change in their localities are Mayors Viviane Alvarez of Oras, Eastern Samar and Atty. Eunice Babalcon of Paranas, Samar.

Moreover, Insighting valuable knowledge and wisdom for the growth of the industry in the academe are Professor Teresita Jocson, former Dean of VSU-Tolosa Campus and Professor Margarita Dela Cruz of UPVTC.

Additionally, of great assistance to the Bureau in upholding and pursuing our mandate are Mrs. Martha Cadano, NFARMC Representative, Mrs. Leilani Comadizo Senior Aquaculturist and the lone Fish Examiner in the province of Biliran; Mrs. Jenily Gedaya and Mrs. Jovita Conales both president of their own cooperatives, the former being the first woman Regional Fisherfolk Director elected in 2015, and Mrs. Ann Jeanette Jaway also a president of a fisherfolk association, is continually striving to empower the fisherfolk community.

Considered as the jewels of the industry, they not only shine in the domestic day to day management of the homes of every Filipino family but are now also active partners in accomplishing the goals of the Bureau. Thus, hand in hand, let us help each other in building a path towards a progressive nation.
