TACLOBAN CITY, May 29 -- “Finally, the dream of BFAR 8 has become a reality” Dr. Juan Albaladejo expressed his warm words during his opening speech on the Groundbreaking ceremony of the soon to rise Regional Office Building of the Bureau in the region.
Five years after the wreckage of super typhoon Haiyan, the fruits of a long and arduous journey has finally come to fruition. A center that will cater to the needs of its primary beneficiaries and stakeholders and enable the agency to work towards the enhancement of the fishery resources throughout the region has been envisioned by the Office. At long last this vision has now started to take shape.
Together with participating government agencies such as the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), the Bureau officially broke ground on its new five-storey, climate resilient, storm surge proof and environment-friendly regional office building which will stand on the grounds of the Coastal Resource Management Center in Diit, Tacloban City. The said building will have a scheduled construction of 18 months and will hopefully be inaugurated next year on the month of July.
Other than being a sweet fruit of labor for the agency, it is also another chapter of BFAR 8’s unwritten story towards a progressive nation building, an empowered fisherfolk community, a rich and sustainable marine life that will serve the present and the future generation of the country most especially in Eastern Visayas.
